Karen’s lifelong dream of becoming a teacher became a reality after years of babysitting, volunteering, tutoring, and working at summer camps with children of all ages. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Indiana University and later pursued a Master’s degree in Special Education from Xavier University in Ohio. Cincinnati-born and raised, Karen began her teaching journey with 5th-grade students, accumulating five years of experience in both Ohio and Indiana. About 2.5 years ago, she relocated to Colorado, where she embraced the role of a 1st-grade teacher in DPS. With vast teaching and tutoring experience, Karen brings expertise to Wash Park Tutoring.
Trained in Orton-Gillingham, she’s passionate about foundational reading skills as well as teaching math (she loves teaching fractions). Karen uses creativity to make math accessible. Her cross-grade, cross-state experience equips her to support students in reading, writing, and math from K-5. With a student-centered approach Karen tailors each session, offering choices and individualized activities. Outside tutoring, Karen explores Denver’s parks, hikes, visits farmer’s markets, or spends time at the library. Living with her husband and two kittens, Strawberry & Vanilla, Karen embraces Colorado’s vibrant outdoor life.
