Originally from Maryland (go Ravens!), Marilyn has called Colorado home for the past 7 years. Specializing in mathematics, she currently oversees math curriculum for middle grades and serves as an instructional coach. Marilyn’s teaching journey has formally covered grades 5-8 in mathematics, but her tutoring expertise extends from 1st grade to 9th grade, encompassing math, reading, and writing. Embracing a student-centered approach, Marilyn fosters an environment where students explore various strategies, enhance sense-making skills, and build on their existing ideas. She actively promotes creativity and instills an asset-based mindset, emphasizing each student’s strengths.
Marilyn holds a bachelor’s degree in Middle Grades Mathematics and English Education from Towson University, followed by a master’s in K-12 Mathematics Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Colorado-Boulder. Marilyn actively contributes to ongoing research and collaborates with field experts, co-authoring research-based curriculum currently undergoing piloting in four school districts. Beyond the academic realm, Marilyn’s interests encompass camping, hiking, cooking, reading, paddleboarding, and snowboarding. An avid animal lover, she proudly owns two dogs and three cats, with intriguing stories to share about her two special-needs pets.
