Alicia Lee Rhodes is a proud special education math teacher and department specialist at JFK High School in Denver, Colorado. She has spent her entire career advocating for better resources and outcomes for students as both a school level advocate and a Member of the Board at the Denver Classroom Teachers Association. Over her 7 years in teaching in DPS, Ms. Rhodes has compiled a wealth of experience in servicing students with special needs. She most enjoys the relationships that she builds with her students. Ms. Rhodes prides herself on understanding the social/emotional side of teaching, knowing that the root cause of an issue is not always academic. To that end, Ms. Rhodes is an expert in evaluating client IEP’s and in implementing both academic and social/emotional accommodations and modifications. In her free time, Ms. Rhodes enjoys both playing and coaching softball (for JFK High) and volunteering and activism. She has extensive experience running support groups for marginalized populations.+

Ms. Rhodes has a Masters in Teaching from Metropolitan State University with a special education endorsement and B.F.A. in Film Production from CU-Boulder where she also spent significant time studying 20th Century history. In addition, she is READ Act certified by the State of Colorado, a specialized program that teaches K-12 literacy skills. Her specialized career experience includes running a center for students with significant emotional needs, overseeing the IEP identification process at JFK High School, and as supervisor of the mental health and special education departments at West Middle School. In her career she has taught elementary and middle school literacy and high school math spanning all grades (Math 1, Math 2, and Financial Algebra). She looks forward to bringing her compassion and diverse skill set to help your young scholar.
